This 18-year-old Yamazaki, limited edition blend in sherry casks, is a whisky well known by people who like japanese whisky and is generally appreciated by them. This whisky, from the first Japanese distillery, founded by Shinjiro Torii, is so popular that it unfortunately became an object of speculation …
Nose: You first smells chocolate and raisins. Then come aromas of tea, dried dates and plums as well.
Mouth: A little bit dry in the mouth at the first sip, with wood and dried fruits always present. Then some caramel brings a little bit of sweetness, mixing with nice notes of sherry. A touch of tobacco at the end.
Finish: A medium-length finish, with a nice balance between fruits and spices.
Note: 88/100
A very nice expression of Japanese whisky, they know how to make great whisky and this Yamazaki whisky is another proof of it! My favorite japanese whisky brand (and bottle) so far!
Unfortunately I just finished my bottle and in regard of the prices in auctions (around £300), i’ll probably not buy another bottle. Other whiskys of the same quality and style are available for a lower price. But if you have the opportunity, taste it!
