Macduff is a Speyside distillery producing the Glen Deveron whisky, you’ll find Macduff named whisky only by independent bottlers, such as here with Malts of Scotland. This special bottling of Macduff Christmas 2017 is a 17yo whisky aged in sherry cask.
Nose: The high degree of alcohol dominates the nose before blooming notes of black fruits and dates. Spices, Christmas spices that’s it!, also have their place in this seasonal whisky. Light notes of sulfur and coffee.
Mouth: Wood and spices invade the mouth at first taste, we feel the relatively high degree of alcohol. We find nice notes of black fruits, dried dates and coffee that we had on the nose. Again, a touch of sulfur that is not disturbing.
Finish: Long, on spices and wood. Slight dryness in the mouth.
Note: 85/100
For this Macduff Christmas 2017, I would have appreciated more fruity notes (lot of plums and dates as with many sherry whiskys), a little bite more present and a little more marked cause alcohol, wood and spices take a little too much place. But that’s a matter of taste.
A very pleasant seasonal whisky at an average price of 110 €.
