The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is a whisky that has spent about ten years in Bourbon casks, before finishing its maturation in Porto Ruby barrels. The “quintas” are the famous Porto houses in Portugal. And to perfect your general knowledge, Ruby has for translation “Ruban” in Gaelic, this explains it. But, yes, I know, what interests everyone is what it’s worth … Let’s see that with the tasting notes 😉
Nose: Vinous notes and tangerines notes are strongly felt in the first place. We also detect a touch of pears and… I do not know, maybe some Christmas cake with light spices mixing with fruits. But the winey side is a bit too pronounced for my taste.
Mouth: Sweet and sugary but also fruity and vinous. We are more on oranges and the spices are more present than for the nose. But sorry to say… it is still too vinous for my taste and that’s a little more disturbing than for the nose.
Finish: Short, very short. On oranges and oak wood.
Note: 79/100
This Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is totally drinkable but it is also completely dispensable in my case. But it could be more enjoyed by some people who appreciate these vinous notes, including when they are present at this high level. Available for about 45 €, I rather like the Glenmorangie Nectar d’Or which is just a little bit more expensive.
