The 18-year-old Glendronach Allardice (46% – 2017) is a single malt aged in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, which was put on the market at the initiative of the new owner of the distillery. An happy initiative? We discover this right now 😀
Nose: Sherry casks, for sure, you notice this immediatly, the nose is invaded by spices and fruits, like grapes and plums. Despite a low degree of alcohol (well, everything is relative), you take it right in the nose, some notes of sulfur. Nice old rum notes. More pleasant after some aeration.
Mouth: Plums and dates, all this wrapped in caramel. This whisky is strong, it also brings some drought. Old rum notes as with the nose. The tastes are pretty sliced, it’s nice but it lacks a bit of complexity and wealth.
Finish: A medium length finish, some dryness, chocolate and spices.
Note: 85/100
For a price between 75 and 90 €, depending on the shops, it is a very nice whisky. The cheapest found online at this moment is available at Drankdozijn.
However, for this price, if you like Oloroso sherry cask whiskies, I rather like to this Glendronach Allardice a good Aberlour Abunad’h (tasting notes incoming!)…
