Tasting notes of the Auchentoshan Springwood. Since two-three years, it looks fashionable to release bottles without mention of age but with nice names, even original, also to expand a distillery range. Well, the name is often bearing promises without necessarily being followed. Let’s see it with this Lowlands whisky 😉
Nose: Well it’s written on the bottle, and for once what is written on the bottle is not a thousand miles from what you smell … Citrus, lemon and grapefruit, and vanilla. That’s it, yes, that’s all. I do not really see the “complex” they’re talking about. Not unpleasant at all, but for this I would have preferred that the nose does not stick so perfectly to what is written on the label.
Mouth: Sweet, creamy, the mouth feel is very pleasant. But in terms of aromas I do not find, again, anything else than these same citrus and the same vanilla. Still not unpleasant but still not transcendent. Notes of wood and spices, rather on pepper, are detectable at the end of the mouth. It’s a little short young man, so I can not say, God, many things… 😐
Finish: Short. Like the comments I could make about the notes: wood.
Note: 75/100
Well, this Auchentoshan Springwood is not a bad whisky but when you like to travel a little with a dram and try to put a names on many flavors that invade the mouth, then… This is not the good whisky for that. You will find it in shops for a price from 25 € to 45 €. So for 25 €, no problem, it’s worth, but beyond that, personally, I would pass my turn.
