Balmenach 1979 32yo

We continue with another vintage gem, a Balmenach 32 years old (53.1%) by Maltbarn. Maltbarn is one of those independent bottlers who have the nose to select exceptional casks. Most of their bottles are sold out in a few days or even a few hours.

For this one, they selected a Balmenach cask, distilled in 1979 and slowly aged in bourbon casks for 32 years. Balmenach is a Speyside distillery that currently does not have its own bottling, so you’ll only find it through independent bottlers.

Balmenach 1979 32yoNose: A spicy and herbaceous freshness, something grassy but also and especially fruits, citrus fruits but also peaches and pears in a subtle balance.

Mouth: Very smooth with vanilla, banana, a fruity flavor sprinkled with a hint of cinnamon. Again, a certain herbaceous freshness.

Finish: A fairly long finish, round and fruity. With a return of spices, cinnamon. A woody touch also, that’s normal with a 30 year old whisky (and the wood is usually even more present than here).

Note: 90/100

A beautiful fruity speyside as I like them, a typical speyside. About 170 € on its release date, if you find it at a good price in auctions, do not hesitate.
